I have always loved the painting of Georges Seurat. This small series employs a version his technique, but in a somewhat more abstract form. These paintings are all based on a photograph I took of reflections in a lake. Although these paintings may appear very different to my other work, some of the formal concerns are similar, such as the way lower layers of painting show through the top layers, and the way the landscape breaks down into horizontal bands. I find the technique sometimes makes a welcome contrast to the relative freedom of my other work.
